How far from Santa Ana is the beach?

I personally like going to Playa Manta by Punta Leona Hotel for a few hours beach day, it is only an hour drive from Santa Ana, which is why I like Santa Ana’s location. Punta Leona is a hotel however there’s a beach called Playa Manta which you can access from the main road. They have a parking and showers and the beach is very nice. From there you can take walk on the beach to Playa Blanca with white sand and clear water. If you prefer a beach-town you can drive another 15-20 min further to Jacó. Sand on the beach will be darker, but you’ll have a town with restaurants and excursions if that’s what you’re looking for.

Where to do grocery shopping in Santa Ana Costa Rica?

Santa Ana  has a few supermarkets. You’ll find here Pali, MaxiPali, Mas x Menos, Automercado, Megasuper, and also smaller “pulperias”.  There are few great butcher shops on the main street of Santa Ana downtown, few fruterias and verdurias (fruits and veggies). Try to go to Sunday’s farmers market in Santa Ana downtown. It is a great experience, you’ll watch locals and expats shopping for fresh fruits and veggies, local cheeses, fish and meat. There’s also variety of artisan artists selling their products and also delicious breakfast spots.

Which supermarket in Santa Ana has best prices?

If you’re new to Costa Rica you may not know that some supermarkets will be little cheaper than others. For example a popular Pali or MaxiPali will sell some items cheaper then Mas x Menos or Automercado, which seems to be the most expensive for most products. It isn’t a rule of course, but it is worth checking which store has better prices on items you buy regularly, especially if you want to safe few bucks. Also Automercado might have some imported products you won’t find anywhere else.
